Howling Wolf at Flatbread Creek

There again, that old piercing long howl vibrated across the meadow. Facing the woods I looked out beyond the wheat field searching for the sad sound that I had heard more than once in the last several days. The long isolated howl sounded as if it called out for someone, anyone to respond. It sounded lost and lonely as though for all time.
